On the runway at ABS, Vivienne Mackinder made a comment about how a little bit of everything is “in” right now including retro from just about every decade. It’s true – I’ve been seeing everything from big and wild texture to super sleek Mad Men-inspired looks. Here a few haircutting and styling trends that are really standing out this Spring.
The cut is long and all one length or with long layers, especially around the face. The style is straight or loose, easy waves. Braids and other plaits are big with this season, which fits right in with the boho trend. Try this easy braided updo or try french braiding a section in the front, above your forehead.
Viva la Bob
The bob is still going strong, especially the shoulder-length version as evidenced by everyone’s favorite hair inspiration, Jennifer Anniston. Again the look is a little less structured then a traditional bob and can be styled with almost undone-looking wave. If you have long hair and want to rock this look for a day, try a pinned up faux bob.
Punk Rock Pixie
The pixie cut was thrust back into the limelight when Emma Watson got the cropped ‘do a few months back. This season’s pixie cut has a bit more length and texture on top, giving it an edgier vibe.
On the Fringe
After a brief hiatus, bangs are back with a vengeance, especially the wide, blunt, 60s groupie-style version. This is great because they pair really well with both the long boho styles and the shoulder length bob.
Whether they are loose and sexy or smooth and sleek, ponytails and buns are low on the head, near the nape. Try my super simple twisted bun.
Don’t forget to decorate your hairstyles with cute clips, barrettes, embellished headbands, etc. They are a terrific way to dress up that low ponytail or bun. At both ABS and ISSE I saw plenty of options from bows to feathers. All three floral designs above were found on Etsy.
