L’Oreal Paris has teamed up with the Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA) in an effort to increase awareness of this deadly skin cancer and raise funds for research. Studies show that most Americans don’t fully appreciate the dangers of sun exposure or know how frequently melanoma is life threatening.
Here are a few alarming facts taken from the press release:
- Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer
- 1 person dies every hour in the US from melanoma
- More than 76,000 Americans are diagnosed with melanoma each year
- 99% of skin cancer patients survive with early detection
Even though we are constantly hearing the message that sun protection is essential, only 28% of women believe it’s possible to develop this form of cancer. Approximately half of women only wear sunscreen when they know they’ll be in the sun for a long amount of time. It seems that when it comes to melanoma, our country has an awful case of “it won’t happen to me” denial.
The great news is that melanoma is preventable. Take care to protect your skin from the sun with sunscreens, hats, and clothing. Don’t forget to check your body for any changes to moles and talk to your doctor about having your skin checked periodically.
From now until the end of the year, L’Oreal will donate $1 to MRA for every Sublime Sun product sold, with all funds designated for research. The line includes a full line of face and body sunscreens including three new oil sprays. The quick-absorbing oil sprays are available in SPF 15, 30, and 50+. They contain photostable UV filters and a patent-pending polymer technology for water resistance. With nourishing argan, shea, grapeseed, and sunflower oils, they are as much as a treat for skin as they are a smart protective measure.
L’Oreal Sublime Sun Sheer Protect Sunscreen Oil SPF 50+ retails for $10.99. It’s available for purchase – along with the rest of the Sublime Sun line – at www.lorealparis.com and chain drug, food and mass market retailers nationwide.by
