Today's quick tip is to embellish your ponytail or braid with a ribbon. Tying a simple bow around your hair band is a quick and easy way to dress up a casual style. If bows aren't your thing, try using ribbon as a headband instead. Both chic-on-the-cheap looks have been spotted all over the runways this past year.
All you need is a hair band and a short length of ribbon. If you don't have one already, the good news is that ribbon is pretty inexpensive. Your local fabric or craft store will likely have plenty of options and they can cut it for you to whatever length you need. Heck, you can usually find ribbon at dollar stores. If all else fails, do what I do and prime it from Amazon.
I prefer 1/4" to 1/2 wide ribbon cut cut about 26" long but the width and length are entirely up to you. Simply snip the ends and fray them a bit for a worn-in look. If you prefer a cleaner edge, use a lighter to quickly pass the ends through a flame to seal them. (Ummm... make sure your ribbon is polyester first!)
Wrap the ribbon around your hair band to hide it and then tie a bow. It's that easy, people. If you want to take it to the next level, try weaving the ribbon through a traditional or fishtail braid.
